Preparation Creates Freedom

Preparation is not about avoiding mistakes. It is about preparing for adversity.

Preparation is not about avoiding mistakes. It is about preparing for adversity.

A shoot is an entropic universe. As soon as you put something together, it starts falling apart. Light changes. Talent gets delayed. Rooms surprise you. Power fails. The schedule compresses.

Preparation gives me the freedom to stay loose when that happens.

I stand on the mark. I sit in the interview chair. I check the first playback of the day. I track the sun path. I look for safe paths in and out. When possible, I ask for one extra wildcard light—built, powered, and ready for the thing nobody knew we would need.

The goal is not control. The goal is confidence inside uncertainty.
