Douglas Cheney

I'm a director and cinematographer with a lifelong passion for cinema that has taken me from film loader to creative leader. That passion shows up on set everyday on every production.

I've spent my career across film, television, content creation and advertising. I co-created the Emmy-nominated web series Prom Queen and Sam Has 7 Friends, and launched Big Fantastic, one of the early groundbreaking digital production companies. I've shot and directed hundreds of commercials, multiple feature films, documentaries and narrative series.

I've collaborated with major networks and brands—including Verizon, Ford, Snickers, Toyota, NBC, Comedy Central, Geico, Discovery, Nat Geo, Oxygen, and Fox—creating everything from brand films to television series.

I've spent my career moving fluidly between directing and cinematography, which means story, blocking, performance, camera and lighting are one conversation—not separate departments. My experience as a producer makes me more valuable to producers.

I run a tight crew and fight for every frame, but I always get the day. Technical mastery, humble artistry, and good vibes come standard, along with genuine respect for everyone's craft.

Whether I'm Director, Director of Photography or both, I always aim to create impactful images with minimal ego and a collaborative set that moves with purpose and style.
